INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW

Trade Secrets

trade secrets

Trade secret law is a branch of intellectual property law that addresses the protection of proprietary information against unauthorized commercial use by others. A trade secret protection can last indefinitely, as long as the secret is commercially valuable and the owner takes reasonable measures for its protection. Examples of trade secrets include formulas, patterns, compilations, programs, devices, methods, techniques, or processes. Even a new invention for which a patent has not been filed yet can be protected through a trade secret. The economic value of the information can be actual or potential.
